Singer-songwriter Bob Dylan wasn’t kidding when he released ‘The times, they are a changing’ in the 60’s. Change is good, right? Almost everyone wants to change something.
Some say the worlds of business, communication, media, government and non-profits are on the edge of a transformative change. Bill Drayton, Founder and current chair of Ashoka argues in a recent Harvard Business Review article that “we are transitioning from a world in which a small elite runs everything to a world in which everyone needs to be a player. … To be effective in this new world, you will need to master the skills of empathy and teamwork, as well as leadership and driving change. You will need to know how to function in a world that is not a hierarchy but a kaleidoscopic global team of teams, with no boundaries between sectors…” Drayton suggests that the old principles and framework for how to function in these worlds will no longer work.
Drayton’s changemakers initiative is a community of leaders in action collaborating on the solutions of global and domestic problems. This organization understands that leaders want to make a difference and will find a way to make it happen. But how?
- Talk about the issues
- Share stories through collaborations with mentors, groups and friends
- Form partnerships that turn the old ways of problem solving upside down
- Be the change you want to see in the world - Mahatma Gandhi
iB-LIEVE recently participated in a changemakers friendly competition for ‘Rethinking Mental Health: Improving Community Wellbeing. Although we were not selected as a finalist, the ideas and solutions for the problem were discussed and shared with a large community. Collaboration is one of the stops on an Ashoka’s changemakers road to success.
Like Bill Drayton says, “This is a rare moment in history. Are you ready to be a changemaker?” iB-LIEVE we all are!
